Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Galia and your pets' health.

About the Galia app

Is Galia free?

Yes, Galia is completely free: download, health record, reminders and sharing, with no fees or subscription. If optional paid features are introduced in the future, they will be clearly announced and subject to your prior acceptance.

Which phones does the Galia app support?

Galia is available on iPhone and recent Android smartphones. The app is designed primarily for phones and adapts to different screen sizes.

How do I download Galia on iPhone or Android?

Go to the App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play Store (Android) and search for "Galia". You can also scan the QR code on our homepage. Installation takes less than a minute.

Does the app work offline?

Not yet: Galia currently requires an internet connection to view and record data. An offline mode (viewing the health record without a connection, deferred sync) is part of our planned improvements. In the meantime, if you're heading to an area with poor coverage, consider taking a screenshot of the important information before you go.

How many pets can I manage in Galia?

You can add as many pets as you like, and many species are supported: dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, rodents (hamster, guinea pig, rat, mouse, gerbil, chinchilla), parrots, reptiles (lizard, turtle, snake), and even horses, goats, sheep and donkeys. Each animal has its own profile and separate health record.

Digital health record

What is a digital health record for pets?

A digital health record centralizes all your pet's medical information in one place on your phone: vaccinations, treatments, consultations, surgeries, allergies, weight, prescriptions and documents. No more lost or illegible paper records — everything is accessible instantly, even in an emergency.

What information can I store in the health record?

Galia lets you record: vaccinations with dates and reminders (including multi-disease vaccines), treatments with dose tracking (antiparasitics, medications, chronic treatments), vet visits by type (check-up, surgery, dental…) with notes and attached documents (prescriptions, reports, test results), weight tracking with an evolution chart, a symptom journal with photos, diet, grooming and care (grooming, farrier…), plus allergies and identification details (microchip, tattoo, neutering, insurance).

Can I store prescriptions and vet test results?

Yes. You can photograph or directly import any medical document (prescription, test result, surgical report, X-ray) and attach it to your pet's profile. These documents are stored securely and accessible instantly.

How do I add multiple pets to the app?

From the home screen, tap "Add a pet" and enter their name, species, breed, date of birth and photo. Each pet then has their own complete profile. You switch between them with a single swipe.

Vaccines and treatments

How can I stop forgetting my dog's or cat's vaccines?

Galia records each vaccination date and automatically calculates the next booster date. You receive a push notification on your phone several weeks before the deadline, then a reminder the week of the appointment. You'll never be caught off guard again.

How often should I vaccinate my dog?

The basic vaccination protocol for dogs includes the initial course (usually 2 injections 3-4 weeks apart) then annual or every-3-year boosters depending on the vaccine. Common vaccines include distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis (CHPPi) and rabies (for travel). Your vet tailors the schedule to your dog's age, lifestyle and risk factors.

How often should I vaccinate my cat?

For cats, the standard protocol covers feline panleukopenia, cat flu and feline leukemia (FeLV). After the initial course, an annual or triennial booster is recommended depending on the vaccines and risks. Cats that go outdoors or live with other cats generally need more comprehensive coverage. Consult your vet to tailor the protocol.

What antiparasitic treatments should I give my pet?

Antiparasitic treatments fall into two categories: external parasiticides (fleas, ticks, mosquitoes) and internal parasiticides (roundworms, tapeworms, giardia). The recommended frequency is generally every 1 to 3 months depending on the product and your pet's lifestyle. Pets that spend a lot of time outdoors or hunt should be treated more regularly.

How do I manage deworming and antiparasitic reminders in Galia?

After each treatment, log it in Galia with the date, product used and dose. Set your preferred frequency (monthly, quarterly…) and the app will automatically schedule the next reminder. You'll receive a notification when it's due.

Vet appointments and emergencies

How do I organize vet appointments with Galia?

You record each vet visit in Galia with its date, type (check-up, surgery, dental…) and the vet's name. For upcoming visits, the app sends you progressive reminders before the due date, up to the day before and the day itself. After the consultation, you can add the notes and documents directly from your phone while the information is fresh.

What should I do in a veterinary emergency?

In an emergency, every second counts. With Galia, your pet's important information (allergies, current treatments, visit and vaccine history) is available within seconds: simply show the app to the emergency vet. Outside the app, call your vet clinic — many have an emergency service or can direct you to the nearest on-call clinic.

How often should I take my pet to the vet?

A healthy adult cat or dog should be seen at least once a year for a check-up and vaccine updates. Young animals (puppies, kittens) need more frequent visits in their first months. Senior pets (from age 7-8 depending on species) benefit from twice-yearly check-ups. These preventive visits help detect potential health issues early.

Can the app help if my pet eats something dangerous?

If your pet ingests a potentially toxic substance, contact your vet or veterinary poison control immediately. Galia gives you quick access to your pet's medical info (weight, current treatments, allergies) so the health professional can act fast. We recommend noting any known allergies or sensitivities in your pet's profile.

Sharing and family

Can I share pet management with the whole family?

Yes, this is one of Galia's key features. You create a family circle and invite household members (partner, children, parents…). Everyone can view the health record, add information and receive reminders. No one can claim they didn't know the vaccine was due!

How do I give a pet-sitter or nanny access to the health record?

From your pet's profile, you generate a QR code or an invitation link and share it with whoever is looking after your animal. They install Galia, create an account, then join your pet's circle by scanning the code: they can then access the essential information (allergies, current treatments, history), either read-only or as a contributor depending on the role you give them. You can revoke their access at any time.

Can my vet access my pet's health record?

You can share your pet's complete profile with your vet through the app. They can consult the full history before a consultation and add information after the visit. This sharing is optional and entirely under your control.

Privacy and data

Is my data and my pet's data secure?

The security of your data is our top priority. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest, and hosted in Europe. Each account is strictly isolated: only people you explicitly invite can access your pet's information, and you can revoke access at any time.

Is Galia GDPR compliant?

Yes. In accordance with the GDPR, our privacy policy details the data we collect, the purposes and legal bases of each processing activity, retention periods and our processors (hosted in the European Union). You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability and objection, exercisable from the app or by email, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with the CNIL (the French data protection authority).

Does Galia sell my personal data to third parties?

Never. We do not sell, rent or share your personal data for commercial purposes. Your information and your pets' data belong to you. Our technical providers (hosting, analytics) act only on our instructions, under GDPR-compliant data processing agreements.

Can I delete my account and all my data?

Yes, you can delete your account at any time from the app (Profile → Privacy & security). Your data is erased from our systems within 30 days and technical backups are purged within 90 days at most, in accordance with our privacy policy. Deletion is permanent: if you'd like a copy of your data first, request it at contact@galia-pet.fr.

Does Galia use trackers or analytics tools?

Galia may use PostHog (hosted in the European Union) for usage statistics and session recordings with input masking, but only with your consent: on first launch, the app asks for your agreement separately for each of these two tools. You can decline or change your mind at any time in the settings, with no impact on your access to the app.
